2008 Recap

I know in the grand scheme of life, our summer might not be the craziest ever, but we are working our way straight to the top of the list.   We can hardly remember where this summer began, because the trail we've been on since May seems so far away.   My life right now reminds me of nights at camp when when it'd be so dark at night that you couldn't always see in front of you, nor that far behind you.

Here's the highlights:

  • May 23 - June 10: Traveled with AIA Basketball to Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.   We helped both with discipleship and finances, while the team played games versus semi-pro teams as well as the Czech Junior National Team.  The team went undefeated, and we created some good relationships with the guys.  We also spent 4 days with Zach Harrod in the beautiful city of Prague, encouraging and ministering to each other.
  • July 11th: After approximately two weeks of looking, we signed a contract to build a home in the Reserves of Xenia (the ROX).
  • July 14th: At approximately at 10pm, our neighbor above us alerted us of a fire in her apartment.  After 4+ hours the fire was put out and the house was left inhabitable.   An army from AIA helped us move out the next morning.  We stayed in the dorms a few nights before moving to the Thomas' (a family at AIA) where we were able to stay for 8 weeks.
  • August 11th: They broke ground on our new house.
  • August 19th: After two tests returned errors (stupid digital tests), we finally received the news we already knew -- WE ARE PREGNANT!
  • August 25th: Our joy was quickly stolen from us as fear of a miscarriage began.    After multiple blood tests, and a early-ultrasound, on August 29th we were give reassurance by being able to see the baby's fetal pulse (heartbeat) -- a longer week than the one with the fire.
  • September 8th: We moved for a second time to friends of an AIA staff member -- next stop, the ROX!
  • September 25th: We discovered that a few items we were storing at work had been stolen from a storage are in the office.   This included a camera and a document fire safety box containing credit cards, passports, and wedding memorabilia.   Another annoying paperwork nightmare, and both a monetary & significant keepsake loss.
  • October 30th: We close on our first home, 649 Jodee!
  • November 22nd: Traveled to Denver to celebrate with Josh and Emily.
  • December 2nd: Find out we're having a little boy.
